Is Google Pay Available in Pakistan? Rumors or Authentic

It’s no secret that the world is moving towards mobile payments. While credit cards have been around for quite some time, mobile payments are growing in popularity.

In fact, according to statista online payments are projected to number US$8.13bn in 2022. With this increased usage, more businesses are accepting payments via mobile devices. But there is still a big gap between the adoption rates of mobile payment solutions in the US vs. Europe vs. Asia.

Google Pay

Google Pay is a new contactless payment solution made possible by Google’s Android mobile operating system. The service was launched on September 19, 2011, with a planned rollout to the whole world. Also, it allows people to pay for goods and services using their smartphones without requiring physical contact with a card reader or PIN.

However, Google has already enabled its payments service on select Android devices in the U.S., Canada, the UK, India, Hong Kong, Germany, Japan, and Singapore.

Usage of Google Pay

Google Pay allows you to pay for purchases using your phone or the web. So if you’re walking through a store and want to pay for something, you can just pull out your phone, scan the barcode, and pay using your phone.

In case if you’re shopping online, you can add items to your shopping cart using the same process. The great thing about GPay is that it’s simple, easy to use, and integrates directly into Google Assistant, making it very accessible.

Google Pay in Pakistan

Google Pay isn’t available in Pakistan for Android and iOS users. You may seen videos on YouTube or read blogs about using Google Pay in the Pakistani region. But all of them are rumors. There is no official thing like that.

Although the previous official delegation landed here, they haven’t concluded about launching GPay.

Reasons

There could be several technical reasons why Google still needs to launch its payment service in our country. But according to tech experts, there are two common reasons.

  • Lack of interest from our Government Officials.
  • The unstable political environment in the country.

Once these issues are resolved, we expect brighter developments in all fintech-related industries.

Expectations

For now, there is yet to be a clue when the company launches its GPay service. But we can hope for the best till then, use other substitutes.
